Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program, NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island

Choosing the right residency program is a key career decision. We hope the following description conveys what we value about our residency program. That said, what I love most, and what is hardest to convey, is the camaraderie and team spirit among the interns, residents, fellows, and faculty.

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island provides residents with excellent clinical teaching, research opportunities, fellowship opportunities, career support. and placement. NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine sets the highest academic standards and expectations while allowing residents to learn in a nurturing learning environment that encourages clinical excellence and scholarship.

Residents find our training program to be truly welcoming, with a chairman dedicated to residency education, scholarship, and career advancement. We have an experienced program director and associate program directors who are directly involved with your education, as are the dedicated faculty of teachers, mentors, and supervisors. The daily interactions that take place provide personal attention, prompt responses to clinical questions, and close professional relationships between residents and faculty.

NYU Langone Hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program prepares residents for working in a medical setting, whether for primary care, hospitalist medicine, or subspecialty fellowships. Residents assume increased responsibility for patients as their training progresses, and they play an essential role in supervising and teaching our medical students. This experience facilitates the development of leadership and teaching skills. And many of our residents have joined the faculty at our medical school and the residency program in leadership positions.

Our residents take advantage of the many research opportunities that are available in the department, working with attending research mentors, fellows, and their peers. Many of the residents present at regional and national meetings, and they graduate with excellent skills and scholarship. A rich case mix further strengthens our inpatient and outpatient clinical programs.

By enabling residents to reach their full potential in clinical medicine, research, teaching, and team leadership, graduates of our program are well prepared to pursue highly competitive fellowship training, an academic career or to enter clinical practice.

I hope you enjoy learning more about what our training program can do for you.
