NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine offers a comprehensive health insurance plan through UnitedHealthcare, which includes coverage for emergency services, hospitalization, specialty care, physical therapy, prescription medications, and care received off campus.

NYU Langone Health covers the full cost of the UnitedHealthcare premium for individual medical and prescription coverage for all enrolled medical students. Coverage for spouses, domestic partners, and/or children requires payment of additional premiums for each dependent added.

Insurance Enrollment

All registered students are automatically enrolled in individual medical and prescription coverage through UnitedHealthcare for the academic year. This coverage cannot be waived.

You must take action by the annual enrollment deadline only if you wish to enroll dependents in your medical and prescription coverage or to enroll yourself or eligible dependents in dental coverage.

The UnitedHealthcare dependent enrollment form and dental plan enrollment website can be accessed on the Benefits Portal (Kerberos ID and password are required) under the tab “Enroll in Your Benefits.”

Medical and Prescription Benefits

Healthcare services provided by in-network providers are covered at the highest level available under your plan. If you choose to receive care from providers outside the network, your out-of-pocket costs will be higher.

You have access to a wide range of medical and mental health professionals through the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus Network, which is a broad national network. NYU Langone psychologists and psychiatrists are included in this network, offering you and your dependents expanded support for emotional well-being.

Optional Dental Benefits

Medical students have the option to enroll in dental coverage through Cigna Dental Care. There are no changes to the current plan design, and students are responsible for paying the full annual premium.

The Cigna Dental Care plan covers up to four diagnostic or preventive oral evaluations per year with an in-network dentist. It also includes access to specialty dental care with a referral to participating periodontists or oral surgeons within the network.

Vision Plans

Medical students have the option to enroll in individual vision plans through VSP. All available plans include an annual comprehensive eye exam and an allowance for either contact lenses or eyeglass frames. Students can review plan options (including coverage details, out-of-pocket costs, and premiums), find a participating eye doctor, and enroll at any time by visiting VSP. Medical students at NYU Grossman Long Island are also eligible for a 10 percent discount on several elective, out-of-pocket procedures at the NYU Langone Eye Center. These include refractive surgeries (PRK or LASIK), contact lens fittings, and the purchase of contact lenses.

Additionally, NYU Langone Optical Shops offer package deals for medical students on eyeglass frames and contact lenses, with prices ranging from $100 to $300. At the four locations, students can be professionally fitted and purchase the latest prescription eyewear, including eyeglasses, sunglasses, and optical accessories.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

All students are automatically enrolled in a disability insurance plan that pays a monthly benefit in the event of a disability caused by illness or injury. This coverage is offered through Med Plus Advantage and sponsored by the American Medical Association. Learn more about the Medical Student Group Disability Insurance Policy.

The premiums listed below are the upfront payments required to enroll in the benefits plans offered by NYU Langone Health. Please note that these premiums do not cover all possible expenses. When you or your dependents receive care, additional costs such as deductibles, coinsurance, and co-payments represent your share of cost and are your financial responsibility.
