Virginia Peragallo-Dittko, RN
As the executive director of NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s Diabetes and Obesity Center, my work spans service, scholarship, and policy. We translate science into clinical practice to improve the care and education of people who have diabetes, while training nurses and physicians to provide outstanding care.
At the center, I direct strategic priorities and design and implement new population health programs to improve adoption of and access to diabetes prevention, education, and treatment services.
During my tenure, we’ve expanded the geographic reach of our diabetes care and prevention programming as well as the scope of our services. I am recognized among my peers for my perseverance in executing innovative strategies that engage people in practical steps to improve their health outcomes.
I currently serve as associate editor of The Diabetes Educator and have previously served as the editor in chief of program publications for the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
I was named an ADA Outstanding Educator in Diabetes in 2007 and ADA Diabetes Educator of the Year in 1990. I’m proud to have earned the distinction of being the only recipient of both elite national awards.
