Jeannine Nonaillada, PhD, OTR/L
As a healthcare professional and an academic scholar, I am passionately committed to medical and hospital education. I am a licensed occupational therapist with clinical experience in a variety of rehabilitation settings and a specialization in gerontology. I have a research doctorate in social work with a concentration in aging.
Since I am an educator with roots in the social sciences, I often emphasize the importance of theory to curricular goals, as it provides the underpinnings that help solidify content and its application to clinical practice. I believe in a multifaceted educational approach that combines many teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of all learners. A large part of my role is mentoring clinicians in scholarly activity and instructing them in the principles of educational research.
My areas of expertise are comprehensive geriatric assessments and rehabilitation of the older adult, and my research interests are interprofessional education, geriatrics in medical education, and educating medically underserved older adults.
I am a member of several professional organizations for medical education and occupational therapy, and I serve as a manuscript reviewer for journals about aging, medical education, and occupational therapy. I have held Board Certification in Gerontology from the American Occupational Therapy Association since 2007, a distinction that fewer than 1 percent of all occupational therapists hold nationally. I was chosen to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association in 2019.
