Department of Family Medicine

We offer hands-on clinical training and personalized clinical services.

The Department of Family Medicine at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine strives to improve our communities and to create a healthy future for all individuals and their families. We accomplish this through our leadership and excellence in family medicine education, research opportunities, clinical practice, and community service. The majority of our physicians are faculty members at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine and provide care for patients of all ages in both outpatient and inpatient capacities.

Family Medicine Education

Our department greatly values the continued intellectual and professional development of our faculty and offers training opportunities to enhance their ability to provide comprehensive services to our patients and community. We also provide medical students at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine with hands-on clinical experiences and opportunities to learn alongside our providers.

Medical Student Education

Family medicine faculty are involved in teaching many NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine undergraduate medical education courses, including the Continuity Ambulatory Practice Experience, Primary Care Clerkship, Problem-Based Learning, and Health Systems Science courses.

Simulation training is an important part of the family medicine curriculum.

Interested medical students can also participate in the family medicine elective and selectives as part of phase two and three of the MD curriculum. These two- to four-week clerkship rotations take place at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island and our ambulatory clinical training sites NYU Langone Medical Associates—Carle Place, NYU Langone Medical Associates—Valley Stream, NYU Langone Primary Care Clinic—Mineola, and NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Bethpage.

Trainees gain valuable experience at the Wellness Initiative Student-run Health (WISH) Clinic, operated in partnership with RotaCare. The clinic provides free comprehensive primary and preventative care with a specific focus on health literacy in the uninsured patient population of Nassau County. Since its opening in 2014, our students have offered care to more than 100 patients during more than 30 clinic sessions.

Our faculty also participate in and hold leadership roles on various education committees at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine.

Family Medicine Clinical Services

As part of a top-rated academic medical center, we provide patients with the highest-quality, personalized care for a full range of medical conditions, both minor and complex, from birth through adulthood. Our wellness services include acute and chronic disease management, smoking cessation programs, weight management, and routine vaccinations for all ages.

Our services are conveniently accessible throughout the East End of Long Island in Suffolk County, central Nassau County, Queens, and Brooklyn. Some of our many locations include NYU Langone Family Medicine Associates—North Babylon, NYU Langone Family Medicine Associates—West Babylon, NYU Langone Medical Associates—Howard Beach, NYU Langone Medical Associates—Greenport, NYU Langone Medical Associates—Riverhead, NYU Langone Medical Associates—Carle Place, NYU Langone Primary Care Associates—Bellport Village, NYU Langone Medical Associates—Shoreham, and NYU Langone Medical Associates—Oakdale.

In April 2017, with the goal of better serving our community, the department opened the NYU Langone Primary Care Clinic—Mineola. This clinic delivers medical care for many underserved members of the community and provides an alternative location to the Emergency Department at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island.
