House Staff Benefits, Policies & Services
NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine fosters a culture of caring to support our residents and fellows as they pursue the rigorous task of becoming competent and confident physicians.
We are proud to offer house staff a highly competitive salary and many benefits, including paid vacation and sick leave, two wellness days per year to allow for personal health maintenance, health and dental insurance, long-term disability insurance, and crisis intervention services. Other perks include discounted health club memberships, free parking, and white coat laundry service on campus. There is also a limited number of subsidized housing units near campus that are made available to residents through a lottery system.
House Staff Salary
NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island house staff salaries are highly competitive with other academic medical centers in the New York metropolitan area. Tax-deferred annuity is available. All residents and fellows receive 4 weeks of paid vacation (20 working days) for each contract year. Reimbursement for allowable educational expenses is available up to a maximum of $600.
Funding for Educational Conferences
Residents and fellows receive funding to attend educational and research conferences as part of their training. Residents are eligible for $1,500 over the length of the residency to attend an educational conference, at the discretion of the program director. Fellows are eligible for $1,500 each year of their fellowship to attend an approved professional conference at the discretion of their program director.
Occupational Health Services
Residents and fellows are provided with annual health assessments and tuberculosis screenings, as well as vaccines and required health surveillance free of charge at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s Occupational Health Services. If a member of the house staff becomes ill while at work, they will be seen at no charge by an Occupational Health Services practitioner, or by emergency department staff, if a practitioner is not available. Free assessment, referral, and brief psychotherapy services are also available on a confidential basis to members of the house staff and their immediate families.
Employee Assistance Program
A free, confidential crisis response resource is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to residents, fellows, and their family members. For immediate connection to licensed mental health counselors, call the Corporate Counseling Associates 24-hour helpline at 1-800-833-8707.

The Office of Graduate Medical Education has developed a series of policies, which all house staff are expected to be familiar with, to support best practices in the education and training of residents and fellows.
