Internal Medicine Residency at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk

Our residents gain invaluable clinical, didactic, and research training.

Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We are excited about your interest in our program and the opportunity to share what makes our residency a great place to train.

Our hospital is now a part of NYU Langone Health, one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. This has enhanced our institution in many ways, including the integration of the Epic electronic medical record system, expanded research opportunities, and strengthened clinical training.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a supportive environment where residents develop into well-rounded, confident internists prepared for any career path—whether in general internal medicine or in subspecialty medicine.

As the primary healthcare provider on the South Shore of Eastern Long Island, we care for a diverse patient population in a state-of-the-art community hospital that has a certified trauma center, a stroke center, and an active cardiac catheterization program. Our internal medicine residents gain hands-on experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including our busy ambulatory care practice, which has more 12,000 visits per year. In addition, being a part of NYU Langone provides further training opportunities across the health system.

Education is at the core of our program. Our faculty consists of dedicated educators committed to evidence-based, patient-centered care. We emphasize mentorship, research, and quality improvement, ensuring our residents have the resources they need to succeed. Our curriculum follows a “4+1” format, balancing inpatient and ambulatory experiences, while allowing time for scholarly activities and resident wellness.

We take great pride in fostering a welcoming, collaborative environment where your education and well-being are a priority. We look forward to meeting you and discussing how NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk can support your training and career goals.

How to Apply

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), also known as The Match. Our NRMP program code is 2412140C1. Applications to our residency program are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our ERAS program number is 1403500929.

Interviews are offered through ERAS and begin in late October and end in January. We offer 10 PGY-1 positions each year, and we have a total of 30 residents. No preliminary positions are offered; all positions are categorical.

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • a graduate of a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  • a graduate from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • a graduate from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada who must meet one of the following additional qualifications:
    • hold a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment; we require that you submit your ECGMG certificate through ERAS before March 1
    • hold a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction in their current ACGME specialty or subspecialty program,
    • have graduated from a medical school outside the United States and have completed a fifth pathway program provided by a LCME-accredited medical school.

Applicants must provide United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) scores. We also accept Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States (COMLEX) scores. We require three letters of recommendation, though you may submit a maximum of four through ERAS. We prefer to receive all letters of recommendation through ERAS. Please do not send us additional documentation by email for your application.

Our program preferentially reviews candidates who have graduated from medical school within five years of the application date and have achieved a passing USMLE Step 1 score and a Step 2 CK score greater than 210 on the first attempt.

We currently are not able to offer positions to candidates who require visa sponsorship.
