Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity is ingrained in the mission of NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. Our innovative medical education brings together outstanding students, many from groups underrepresented in medicine and first-generation college graduates, and prepares them to be physician leaders.
Our faculty are an inclusive community of lifelong learners, committed to contributing to the four pillars of advancing health equity: research, medical education, clinical care, and community initiatives. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) ambassadors from each department exchange ideas at monthly meetings of the DEI Committee. We draw on our own diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to excel in innovation and problem-solving.
Student-led organizations that promote DEI include the Student National Medical Association, Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association, LGBTQ+ Medical Student Association, and Jewish Student Group. Additionally, our MD students provide free medical care to uninsured and underinsured patients at the Wellness Initiative Student-Run Health (WiSH) Clinic and mentor high school and college students who are underrepresented in medicine through the Envision Scholars Academy.
At the graduate medical education (GME) level, residents and fellows are represented on the GME Diversity Committee and receive active learning in transgender healthcare, implicit bias and anti-racism, and macroaggressions.
