Recruiting for an Inclusive Workforce
The mission of NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine is to develop preeminent physician leaders and a diverse workforce through scholarship and innovative medical education design anchored by the principles of primary care and health systems science.
Our Office of Community Engagement and Inclusive Excellence works closely with the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid to foster inclusive and proactive recruitment practices, seeking to attract the very best candidates from a adiverse pool of prospective candidates.
MD Student Recruitment
We seek to enroll medical students of diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives who demonstrate a commitment to future practice in the primary care disciplines of internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and general surgery. Residency, Fellow, Faculty, and Leadership Recruitment
We bolster inclusive excellence in graduate medical education, as well as within the faculty and leadership levels by actively recruiting individuals from diverse backgrounds. Inclusivity of lived experience allows us to: consistently deliver top-quality care for patients, making us better, more empathetic clinicians; educate and train the next generation of exceptional physicians; and conduct groundbreaking research. Working together in this way makes us better teachers, better care providers, better students, better researchers and a better health system. Our aim is to attract and retain talent that reflects the rich diversity of our communities and the patients we serve.
Our Graduate Medical Education Diversity Committee provides individual programs with best-practice strategies for promoting DEI in recruitment. Diversity awareness and institutional goals are discussed regularly with department chairs and program leadership.
As important, regular training sessions are conducted to mitigate the effects of unconscious bias in the evaluation and selection of candidates and to better understand and appreciate the diverse backgrounds of our students, residents, fellows, faculty, and leadership.
