The Division of Health Services Research (DHSR) leads the way in primary care and population health research on Long Island. It is part of the Department of Foundations of Medicine within NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. DHSR’s main objective is to build a learning health system that focuses on population health and primary care, with a particular focus on Long Island.

DHSR drives collaborative, interdisciplinary research across NYU Langone, and our diverse network of community and scientific partners to understand how healthcare practices, delivery, and policy affect care and outcomes at the patient and population levels.

Researchers in the division use a range of study designs and analytic tools, tailored to the context and scientific problem, to develop better ways to monitor, maximize, and improve quality of care and health outcomes.

Faculty and staff in the division conduct research in health services; health policy; health equity; clinical decision-making; Medicare payment reform; biostatistics; epidemiology, including disease surveillance; and clinical trial design and implementation science. This research is applied to  chronic diseases  of significant public concern, including diabetes, obesity, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and cancer.

Faculty members also collaborate with clinicians and scientists across NYU Grossman Long Island and all of NYU Langone in study design, data collection and management, data analysis, and interpretation of results.

The division also maintains a Biostatistics Core, which provides expertise in all aspects of statistics and data science. We also offer lectures and workshops throughout the year, and welcome investigators to request a biostatistics consultation with us.
