Minimally Invasive & Robotic Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship

Under the directorship of Farr R. Nezhat, MD, the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine offers a two-year minimally invasive surgery fellowship. Applications are currently being accepted for the program year beginning in July 2022.

Dr. Nezhat is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who is a pioneer and leading authority in the minimally invasive surgical treatment of malignant and benign pelvic gynecologic pathologies. He is known nationally and internationally for his expertise in treating ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers, as well as severe and multi-organ endometriosis, pelvic mass, ovarian cysts, and uterine fibroids. As director of the Advanced Endometriosis Center, he works closely with reproductive endocrinologists and infertility specialists to enhance the effectiveness of treatments and help preserve patients’ fertility.

Fellows work side by side with a multidisciplinary team of providers and rotate at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospitals (Weill Cornell Medical Center and Lower Manhattan Hospital). Several other faculty members, including urogynecological, general, and colorectal surgeons, work closely with fellows.

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is the clinical campus for NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. The hospital is a tertiary care center that sees approximately 4,700 deliveries and more than 3,500 surgical gynecological procedures per year. NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine has its own independent, fully-accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency, with five residents per postgraduate year, and a Maternal–Fetal Medicine Fellowship.

How to Apply

Applicants for the fellowship program must be graduates of a four-year accredited obstetrics and gynecology residency and hold a valid medical license, or otherwise be legally authorized to practice medicine in New York State.

Physicians outside the United States can apply for an observership, which would allow the applicant to observe in the operating room and in rounds. Observerships are approved by NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s Human Resources department and are subject to additional requirements. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, observerships are temporarily on hold.

Applicants should complete and submit the online Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons Fellowship Application.
