Professional Development
At NYU Langone Health, we are committed to cultivating a community that provides quality care and reflects those we serve. Professional development is ingrained in the mission of NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine. Our innovative medical education brings together highly qualified students, many from varied backgrounds, including first-generation college graduates, and prepares them to be physician leaders.
Our faculty are lifelong learners, committed to our three-part mission—to care, to teach, to discover—ensuring that we listen to and learn from all our employees, patients and students. Our lived experience allows us to: consistently deliver top-quality care for patients, making us better, more empathetic clinicians; educate and train the next generation of exceptional physicians; and conduct groundbreaking research. Working together in this way makes us better teachers, better care providers, better students, better researchers, and a better health system.
Faculty are also contributing to a quality workplace by serving as Professional Development ambassadors from each department to exchange a breath of ideas at monthly meetings of the Professional Development Committee. We draw on the richness of our varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to excel in innovation and problem-solving.
Student-led organizations, open to all students, residents, and faculty, promote a positive learning environment and professional development. Additionally, our MD students develop leadership skills by providing free medical care to uninsured and underinsured patients in our local community at the Wellness Initiative Student-Run Health (WiSH) Clinic. The MD students also hone their skills by mentoring local high school and college students and exposing them to primary care medicine through the Envision Scholars Academy.
At the graduate medical education (GME) level, residents and fellows are offered many mentoring and development opportunities to help achieve their professional goals and build a rewarding career.
