Committee for Professional Health and Wellbeing

The Committee for Professional Health and Wellbeing was formed as a systematic approach to navigating occupational hazards of burnout for physicians at all levels of practice, specifically addressing physician faculty. Highly enthusiastic individuals were selected based on their passion and persistence in the field of wellbeing, and an Executive Committee was further formed consisting of physicians (Patricia Rekawek, MD, and Diana C. Savitzky, MD), a licensed social worker (Mary Rzeszut), and the dean of NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine (Gladys M. Ayala, MD).

The committee is overseen by the Executive Committee for Professional Health and Wellbeing, whose premise was to structure a multidisciplinary approach working on issues surrounding wellbeing and burnout. We believe that harnessing the power of leadership can set the tone of institutional culture and make wellness efforts even more effective. Our dean has exemplified this by consistently highlighting the pressing need for hospital and medical school leadership to prioritize faculty wellness and has been highly supportive of our organized wellness initiatives with repeated communication and dedication to working on improving wellness in the spirit of enhanced faculty engagement.

Wellness Ambassador Program

The Wellness Ambassador Program was designed as part of a strategic plan to ensure initiatives were rolled out departmentally throughout our institution. As the program evolved, departments identified dedicated wellness ambassadors for trainees in graduate medical education and faculty. Learn more about the Wellness Ambassador Program.
