Student Health Center Hours

Our hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 4:00PM, by appointment only. You may request to be excused from classes or clinical activities to access health services. If you require an excused absence from a mandatory curricular activity, please contact the Office of Student Affairs.

If you’re experiencing a life-threatening emergency outside of our clinic hours, call emergency services (911) or go to the nearest hospital emergency room and notify us of your treatment as soon as possible. NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island’s Emergency Care Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Student Health Insurance

We provide students with comprehensive health insurance. Medical students are automatically enrolled in medical and prescription coverage (individual coverage). This coverage cannot be waived.

You must take action by the annual enrollment deadline only if you wish to enroll dependents on your medical and prescription coverage or if you would like to enroll yourself and eligible dependents in dental coverage. Visit the Benefits Portal (Kerberos ID and password are required) for plan details and enrollment instructions.

Women’s Health Resource

We refer students in need of gynecological care to NYU Langone Long Island Women’s Health Associates—Mineola.

Please contact Tiffany Atkinson, office coordinator, at 516-663-3063 to schedule all appointments for obstetric and gynecological needs. You will need to provide insurance information for billing purposes, since these services are not offered at the Student Health Center.

Behavioral Health Services

At NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, we provide confidential behavioral health services, including eight free counseling sessions and four medication management services annually.

Our staff of licensed mental health providers are available by appointment, to provide treatment for the following behavioral health conditions:

  • substance abuse
  • smoking cessation
  • depression
  • stress
  • anxiety disorders
  • eating disorders
  • concerns about academic performance
  • roommate and friendship problems
  • family problems
  • sexual concerns
  • identity concerns

Should you require additional services beyond what we offer, we provide referrals to community-based psychologists and psychiatrists for students in need of longer term outpatient care.

Interactive Screening Program

Our Interactive Screening Program offers medical students an online mental health screening service to help you identify stress, anxiety, depression, and other problems that can interfere with academic, professional, social, and personal functioning. After completing a brief online questionnaire, students receive a personal response from a program counselor. Messages can be exchanged with the counselor to ask questions and receive recommendations and support to available mental health services while remaining completely confidential and anonymous. Your identity will not be known to the counselor unless you decide to share it.

The questionnaire is entirely voluntary. We urge you to take advantage of this safe and easy way to find out if stress, anxiety, or depression may be affecting you. Our counselors would be happy to assist you in connecting to resources and services that can help.

Wellness Resources

The Student Health Center is committed to promoting your health and wellness so that you can better achieve your educational and personal goals.

Wellness Representatives

We elect two student wellness representatives annually from each class to be the voice of their peers and to help promote health and wellness. Wellness representatives work closely with the Office of Student Affairs to advocate for services that foster wellness, participate in monthly Student Wellness Committee meetings, and assist in the planning and facilitation of an annual Wellness Retreat.

Fitness and Recreation

We offer discounted memberships for medical students at Healthtrax Garden City, a full-service fitness center located at Winthrop Wellness Pavilion. The 35,000-square-foot fitness facility is equipped with strength and cardio equipment; has an aquatics center with two pools, a whirlpool, and sauna; and offers classes including Group Power, yoga, Pilates, and group cycling. Childcare is available.

Accessibility Services

We are committed to providing equal educational opportunity and participation for students with disabilities. To request accommodations or any other disability services, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at 516-240-7230 or at MEDLI.Students@NYULangone.org.

New Medical Student Health Requirements

All incoming medical students at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine must meet mandatory health entrance requirements prior to matriculation. We ask that you begin this process as soon as possible to allow ample time to gather health information, complete necessary screening, and receive needed immunizations.

Please schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider to have the mandatory health packet completed and reviewed to confirm that all preadmission health requirements are met. The healthcare provider cannot be a family member. The following health information must be provided to Student Health Service:

Student Health Services will also send an email notification to create an NYU Langone MyChart account, which you need to activate to complete mandatory medical history forms and an identity questionnaire.

We strongly advise that medical students receive a meningococcal conjugate vaccine (at least one dose of Menveo or Menactra after the age of 16 and within the previous 5 years). To waive this requirement students can submit a meningococcal vaccine refusal form.
