The Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine is committed to providing exceptional and compassionate patient care. We use the latest evidence-based practices to optimize safety and enhance outcomes while providing an environment that centers the needs of patients throughout their care, from family planning and pregnancy through to menopause.

Led by Joseph R. Koka, MD, our doctors collaborate with specialists from divisions including maternal–fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery to provide comprehensive care using advanced technologies. For high-risk patients, we consult with an interdisciplinary team of experts to ensure that treatment decisions are made evaluating every clinical angle.

We are proud to train the next generation of obstetricians and gynecologists and provide trainees with a foundation of skills and expertise that empowers physicians to become leaders in the field. We are also passionate researchers, leading clinical trials designed to advance our ability to provide informed care.

General Obstetrics and Gynecology Education

Our faculty are actively involved in training obstetrics and gynecology residents, providing hands-on opportunities to assist recognized experts in managing a high-volume practice, including exposure to challenging cases.

We also welcome NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine medical students to rotate with our team, and our faculty instruct trainees in the Maternal–Fetal Medicine Fellowship, Minimally Invasive and Robotic Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalist Fellowship.

Our faculty are actively involved in subinternships and didactic lectures, as well as quality initiatives and peer review committees.

General Obstetrics and Gynecology Research

Our research faculty lead pioneering studies to advance our ability to provide outstanding care to obstetrics and gynecology patients. Current projects focus on improving the birth experience and equitable care for all residents of New York State; and increasing the percentage of pregnant patients screened for opioid use disorders at our ambulatory practices, as well as standardizing any needed therapy and coordinating aftercare.

We are participating in a multicenter clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of respiratory syncytial virus vaccine (RSVpreF) in infants born to women vaccinated during pregnancy.

Our faculty and trainees regularly present at local and national conferences.
