Division of General Surgery
The Division of General Surgery at NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine encompasses all disciplines of general surgery. Physicians in our division handle more than 2,000 cases annually.
We use minimally invasive and robotic approaches whenever possible, as well as advanced technology to improve patient outcomes and maximize the patient experience. Our physicians emphasize patient safety at all levels and deliver outstanding surgical care at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island. NYU Langone is ranked among the top 5 hospitals in the country for gastroenterology and GI surgery.
Our surgeons are leaders in complex hernia repair and offer unique services for minimally invasive abdominal wall reconstruction, chronic pain, neurectomy, mesh explantation, and revision hernia surgery.
General Surgery Education
We offer a five-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)–accredited General Surgery Residency. Each of our five categorical chief residents have routinely matched at competitive fellowships of their choice. A lively, high-volume, structured program allows for generous exposure to routine ambulatory surgery, as well as complex cases typical of a tertiary care facility. We emphasize surgical skill development, medical knowledge, indications for surgery, perioperative management, risk assessment, patient safety, and professional development.
In addition to formal didactic lectures, residents are encouraged to participate in our recurring multidisciplinary meetings, weekly tumor boards, monthly hernia conferences, quality initiatives, and peer review processes.
General Surgery Research
A major focus of our faculty is on clinical research to improve quality and drive innovation. Residents and attending faculty have a consistent presence as presenters at national meetings including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and Americas Hernia Society (AHS).
