Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency offered by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Long Island School of Medicine is committed to creating and sustaining an optimal educational environment for acquiring knowledge, developing technical skill, and fostering sensitivity toward patients and their families. Our program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

We train residents to become compassionate, supportive, competent, and ethical physicians and primary care providers. In reaching these objectives, the program provides increasing levels of responsibility, appropriate supervision, formal instruction, counseling, and critical evaluation, while never losing sight of each resident’s individuality.

Led by Sevan A. Vahanian, MD, program director, we believe that learning is not a finite experience, but rather a lifelong continuum. Our dynamic curriculum provides a broad learning experience in the current standards of patient management using the most up-to-date advances with a focus on patient safety.

We prepare residents for successful medical practice as primary care obstetricians and gynecologists, and offer subspecialty training in a variety of areas. Approximately 62 percent of our graduates pursue fellowship training across all subspecialties, and many are currently on staff at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island.

Our residents acquire the knowledge, skills, and experience to pass written and oral American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) examinations, become an ABOG Diplomate, and launch a career as a valued member of the profession.
